Coronavirus And Physical Therapy

Coronavirus And Physical TherapyAmong the many concerns you have about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), are you wondering about attending physical therapy appointments? The good news is that, for now, outpatient therapy clinics are considered a relatively low-risk environment for exposure, and most clinics are well-versed in proper disinfection and protection procedures.

Here’s a list of best practices that therapy offices should be following. Feel free to call your physical therapist and ask about the office’s safety precautions, as well as what your therapist’s recommendation is for you regarding physical therapy appointments.

Please note that this is intended as general advice, and individuals should consult with their own healthcare professionals and follow the advice and direction of government officials.

PTPN, Physiquality’s parent company, has provided this guidance to Physiquality therapy clinics, as an extra measure of precaution above and beyond PTPN’s usual oversight and support. PTPN and Physiquality are committed to helping our member clinics be safe and healthy environments for all!

The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) was extended until October 13, 2022.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022 enacted this spring granted rehabilitation therapists a 151-day extension beyond the expiration date of the PHE to the Medicare waiver that offers coverage for providing care to beneficiaries via telehealth. This latest renewal of the COVID-19 PHE means coverage for therapy services provided by rehabilitation therapists and their assistants via telehealth will likely remain in place until at least mid-March 2023. The ability to achieve direct supervision via audio/visual communications will expire at the end of the year in which the PHE ends (at this point that would be December 31, 2022).
